At our home market in Mambis of an HIV awareness event. That’s my church in the background.
Lots of people milling around.
Win encourages everyone to come close.
The people start to pay attention.
Liz reads another version of the Good Samaritan
A woman with HIV falls into the hands of robbers
A pastor walks by, but thinks the person deserves what they get. They shouldn’t have sinned and gotten HIV
A doctor walks by, but passes on the other side, because they know the risks of touching a bleeding person with HIV
Finally a bushman comes, and he takes pity on the woman
He takes her to the hospital and pays her fees and makes arrangements for her meals
Elizha asks the people “Who was the neighbor? Who do we respond to those with HIV around us? How does God want us to respond?”
Ironically, Elizha is interrupted by one of the men who is frequently drunk in our town. He rants and raves.
Yet, Julie reminds us that he too is our neighbor as she gently pulls him aside and talks with him.
Finally, Mama Cathy, my favorite nurse at the hospital, offers some closing remarks and information about Voluntary Testing and Counseling.
