Chopping Down Trees
My house before all the tree cutting began.
These 150ft. Eucalyptus trees are so beautiful. However, unfortunately they only live for about 20 years. These are a little over 10 years old.
Another shot of the trees and the water tank for my house.
The crew learned a valuable lesson when the first tree they chopped fell on the shed behind my house. You have to be careful!!
It takes many men to pull the tree in the direction they want it to fall.
Timber!!
And down she goes…
Unfortunately, the tree didn’t quite go where they wanted and it hit another tree, which in turn fell and hit a house. Oops!
The inside of the house. Don’t worry though. No one was hurt and compensation will be paid.
The men stripping the bark off the trees. The word from each tree has been designated to go to a specific organization or group.
Las, who we’ve affectionately nicknamed Shrek, is the expert. Unfortunately the crew doesn’t always listen to him.
Look at all that wood.
It will take large groups of men to move all these logs.
Another tree consultation with Las, Dr. Steve, and some of the crew.
Such beautiful wood.
Chopping wood.
There’s always a great deal of activity around my house on these days.
The supervision team- haha!
Gradually all the trees make their way down.
Believe it or not, before they cut down each tree, Las climbs up to some of the top branches to cut them away. I am amazed by his lack of fear.
Once the trees are removed around my house I have a whole new view:-)
Isn’t it beautiful in the morning sun?
Now they are working on the trees by the hospital.
Good thing we don’t have to go anywhere today. The road is blocked.
What a mess of logs.
The road to the hospital.
Across from the church, the logs have been laid out as a type of playground for the kids. Nowadays, kids frequently come by after school to play.
Kids can get quite creative in their play, especially when they don’t have ready-made plastic playground equipment.
Here some kids are using the smooth side of the bark for a slide.
Kids will be kids:-)
Before (back from my radio tower series)
And many months later, the After. It’s not quite a green because we are in dry season now.
My Mambis home, looking so small compared to the mountains.
